In this lecture, we will describe the continuum of sexual exploitation, including sexual or gender-based discrimination, harassment and abuse. We will discuss power dynamics that exist in medicine and medical education, including ways to decrease the power differentials for a safer working and educational environment. Additionally, we will review what to do when faced with harassment, including a discussion of employer responsibilities in the prevention, investigation, and corrective measures of sexual misconduct.

Frequently, the injuries sustained require abused victims to seek care from healthcare professionals immediately after their victimization.
