Laws and Rules for Louisiana Physicians and Surgeons. This course is mandatory for physicians renewing their licenses for the first time. It is optional and encouraged for all other physicians, and may be taken once a year. Licensees who are found in violation of a practice act provision will also be required to take the course to review the rules for their profession
Learning Objectives
After completion of this course, physicians should be able to:
- Understand and apply the provisions of the Medical Practice Act (law) of the state of Louisiana.
- Understand and apply the rules pertaining to physician medical practice, especially those pertaining to safe prescribing and unprofessional conduct.
- Understand the ramifications, requirements and responsibilities involved with collaborating with other medical professionals such as physician assistants, medical psychologists, and nurse practitioners.
- Understand and apply the basic ethical guidelines underpinning the practice of medicine in the state of Louisiana
- Know where to go and what to do in the case of an impaired professional whether self or other.
- Understand the procedures the board follows upon receiving a complaint about a physician
- Understand the investigation and adjudication processes if a complaint leads to a formal investigation
