After completion of this course, physicians should be able to:

• Understand and apply the provisions of the Medical Practice Act (law) of the state of Louisiana.
• Understand and apply the rules pertaining to physician medical practice, especially those pertaining to safe prescribing and unprofessional conduct.
• Understand the ramifications, requirements and responsibilities involved with collaborating with other medical professionals such as physician assistants, medical psychologists, and nurse practitioners.
• Understand and apply the basic ethical guidelines underpinning the practice of medicine in the state of Louisiana
• Know where to go and what to do in the case of an impaired professional whether self or other.
• Understand the procedures the board follows upon receiving a complaint about a physician 
• Understand the investigation and adjudication processes if a complaint leads to a formal investigation
