Victims of domestic and sexual violence suffer emotional, psychological, and physical abuse, all of which can result in both acute and chronic signs and symptoms of physical and mental disease, illness, and injury. The purpose of this knowledge-based course is to provide an evidence-based approach to improving the current team processes of clinical assessment and management of violence risk in Veterans with PTSD. First, prevalence rates of violence in Veteran populations will be described, noting that most Veterans do not have problems with violence toward others. Next, risk factors that have shown a consistent empirical association with violence in Veterans will be outlined, knowledge of which can help inform what variables to evaluate when assessing violence risk by the team.
