PTSD 101: PTSD Overview and Treatment

This overview course answers essential questions about PTSD. The presenter will outline the DSM-5 diagnostic criteria, explain risk factors for developing PTSD, and describe the most effective PTSD treatments to team members as recommended by the VA/DoD PTSD Clinical Practice Guideline for PTSD (2017).

The purpose of this knowledge-based course is for team members to review video clips of Veterans describing their PTSD symptoms and clinicians explain treatment approaches such as Prolonged Exposure (PE) therapy and Cognitive Processing Therapy (CPT) for PTSD.

By addressing a training practice gap, team members will be able to describe what PTSD is and how it develops, discuss recommended PTSD treatments and how well each PTSD treatment works, and share resources for providers and patients.
