Preventive Medicine Grand Rounds - 2022 CDC Clinical Practice Guideline for Prescribing Opioids for Pain - October 4, 2023 (Web on Demand) - WD4441-100423
These Grand Rounds presentations are provided as a courtesy of CDC’s Preventive Medicine Residency and Fellowship (PMR/F) program with the goal of sharing concrete examples of applying systems-based approaches and leadership practices to population health interventions in a broad range of diseases and health conditions.
In this presentation, Kristine Schmit, MD, MPH, will give an overview of the division’s work and discuss the recently updated clinical practice guideline providing recommendations for effective and safer pain treatment options. Improving the way opioids are prescribed through clinical practice guidelines can ensure patients have access to safer, more effective pain treatment while reducing the number of people who potentially misuse or overdose from these drugs. Reducing exposure to prescription opioids, for situations where the risks of opioids outweigh the benefits, is a crucial part of prevention.
