Bio

Dr. Beckman serves as the Patient Safety and Quality Chief for the Kaiser Permanente Mid-Atlantic States (KPMAS) Pharmacy Department. Dr. Beckman joined KPMAS in 2009 after completing her PGY-1 Pharmacy Practice Residency at Children’s National Medical Center in Washington, DC and her PGY-2 in Medication Use Safety at UMass Memorial Medical Center in Worchester, MA. Dr. Beckman oversees the medication and patient safety and quality workplan for the KPMAS pharmacy department, focusing on continuous quality improvement practices to reduce and prevent medication-related events.

DAPHNE B. BERNARD, PHARMD, RPH

Associate Provost and Associate Professor, Howard University

Bio

In her current role, Dr. Bernard oversees all aspects of accreditation and assessment for the university. She also serves as the Middle States Commission on Higher Education Academic Liaison Officer for the university. Prior to being appointed as an Associate Provost, she most recently served as Interim Dean of the College of Pharmacy at Howard University where she is also an Associate Professor. With almost twenty years as a respected and accomplished professional and academic administrator, Dr. Bernard is considered a leader in academic assessment and accreditation with a true commitment to academic excellence and servant leadership.

ALAN FRIEDMAN, RPH

Pharmacy Regulatory, Quality and Professional Affairs Manager, Kaiser Permanente

Bio

Mr. Friedman is a manager at Kaiser Permanente of the Mid-Atlantic States, where he oversees legislation, regulatory compliance, quality and safety and academic affairs for the regional pharmacy department. He also has a background in community, hospital and long-term care pharmacy practice. As a District of Columbia Board of Pharmacy Member and Chair of the Legislative and Regulatory Committee, Mr. Friedman enjoys focusing on regulatory efforts that benefit the profession and residents of the District.

BENJAMIN MILES, PHARMD, BCPS, RPH

Clinical Staff Pharmacist Specialist - Emergency Medicine, Sibley Memorial Hospital
Board Member, District of Columbia Board of Pharmacy

Bio

Dr. Miles serves as the emergency department clinical pharmacist specialist at Sibley Memorial Hospital in Washington, DC. He regularly precepts pharmacy students and pharmacy residents and has participated in a number of quality improvement and medication safety projects including implementation of a non-opiate pain protocol in the emergency department to reduce the number of opiates prescribed in the ED. Dr. Miles also serves on the District of Columbia Board of Pharmacy and is a member of the Legislative Subcommittee of the Board of Pharmacy.

SHAUNA WHITE, PHARMD, RPH

Bio

Dr. White serves as the Executive Director to the District of Columbia Board of Pharmacy and is the Program Manager for the DC Pharmaceutical Control Division, within the District of Columbia Department of Health in the Health Regulation licensing administration. Dr. White has experience in the community pharmacy setting and with health care regulations serving as a Pharmacist Inspector for the Pharmaceutical Control Division. Her interests include ensuring the safe distribution of pharmaceutical products to District residents while focusing on improving patient outcomes.
