Oral Findings: Identification and Management

Mouth pain is a common presenting complaint to the primary care office. It is imperative that pediatric health care professionals feel comfortable in the proper diagnosis, management, and triage of common oral pathology. In addition, trained pediatricians may be able to detect the oral manifestations of systemic disease, diagnose these conditions earlier and, thus, initiate treatment sooner.

In a revised policy statement, “Maintaining and Improving the Oral Health of Young Children”, the American Academy of Pediatrics notes that pediatricians play an important role in improving oral health for young children.

In this course, you will learn about the diagnosis, management, and triage of common oral pathology.

Learning Objectives

After completing this course, you will be able to:

  • Properly diagnose, manage, and triage oral pathology with appropriate reassurance or referral
  • Distinguish between acquired, congenital and developmental oral findings
  • Recognize the oral manifestations of common systemic diseases
