Managing Hormone Therapy for Gynecologic Cancer Survivors
Cancer survivors oftentimes live with bothersome treatment-related side effects, including induced menopause. Menopause care is not a standardized component of survivorship or oncology care, leaving many female survivors struggling to find the specialized care they need and deserve. This activity addresses this unmet need, specifically in regards to managing menopause for gynecologic oncology survivors.
Gynecologic oncology fellowship curriculums do not require menopause education, and allied health professionals who work in gynecologic oncology are also not required to train in menopause care. Furthermore, only 20% of OBGYN residents and significantly fewer internal medicine residents receive meaningful menopause education.
This mini-course is designed to focus primarily on the safety data of hormone therapy for gynecologic cancer survivors. Data is broken down by cancer type and then further by histology and grade when relevant. The course reviews previvor safety data and discusses survivorship implications for sexual and mental health which both play a role in comprehensive menopause care.
