Geriatric GI: Tread Carefully

A case-based activity exploring important issues related to geriatric gastroenterology including peptic ulcer disease, proton pump inhibitor use, constipation, colonoscopy evaluations and rectal bleeding.

This activity is of value to primary care providers, including physicians, physician assistants and nurse practitioners.

Learning Objectives

Our population is aging. There are many important questions that need to be answered. What is the age limit for a screening colonoscopy? At what age should we stop colonoscopies? What is the “best” test for screening for colon cancer? Join Dr. Peter Buch as he answers these questions and more in a case based, practical, interactive and fun format. At the conclusion of this activity, the learner should be able to:

  • Apply a unique approach that is needed when caring for the elderly with peptic ulcer disease, proton pump inhibitor use, constipation, colonoscopic evaluations, and rectal bleeding.

Peter Buch, MD, FACG, AGAF, FACP

Dr. Peter Buch is a clinical gastroenterologist with over 30 years of teaching experience. Teaching is his passion! His style is case based, practical, interactive and fun. Dr. Buch is an Associate Professor at the University of Connecticut School of Medicine, the University of New England College of Osteopathic Medicine, and the Frank H. Netter, MD School of Medicine. 

He is a graduate of Downstate Medical Center and completed his internship and residency in Internal Medicine and his fellowship in Gastroenterology at Long Island Jewish-Hillside Medical Center (now a branch of Northwell Health).

Over the last several years, Dr. Buch has been honored to present at dozens of national conferences. He loves interacting with his audiences and always learns from them.
