Domestic Violence for Physicians & Physician Assistants

This course is designed to increase awareness among health care professionals of the prevalence of domestic violence, the categories of domestic violence that they may encounter in their practice, how to recognize the signs of domestic violence, and their obligations for reporting known or suspected domestic violence.

At the conclusion of this activity, participants will be able to:

  3. Identify underlying motivating factors that contribute to domestic violence

  5. Describe the phases of the domestic abuse cycle
  6. Identify groups at high risk for domestic violence
  7. Describe common characteristics of both domestic violence victims and perpetrators
  8. Identify common warning signs of domestic violence
  9. Describe best practices in screening for domestic violence and assessing the needs of domestic violence victims
  10. Identify the role of the health care professional in reporting domestic violence and assisting victims
