Critical Care Series: Trauma and Burns

Trauma and violence are leading causes of hospitalization, morbidity, disability, and mortality in the U.S. Across trauma/violence victims aged 1 to 64, unintentional fire/burns rank at number 7 among the top 10 causes of unintentional injury and deaths.

The goal of this course is to provide critical care nurses with knowledge of the injuries related to trauma and burns and promote awareness of the methods used in assessing and managing patients who sustain trauma or burns

  • Discuss three principles of trauma management.
  • Describe three types and depths of burn injury.
  • Identify two interventions specific to burn injuries.
