Bio

Mark J. Hathaway, MD, MPH, is a board-certified OB/GYN who served on Medstar’s Washington Hospital Center OB/GYN faculty from 1997-2013 in Washington, DC. There he developed and led the Section of Community Outreach, the Family Planning Section, the Ryan Residency Program, and the Family Planning Fellowship. He currently serves as a Family Planning and Reproductive Health Senior Technical Advisor for MCSP/Jhpiego, an international NGO that focuses on international maternal child health programs. Dr. Hathaway has served on several national-level work groups and committees, including the Institute of Medicine Standing Committee on Family Planning and the National Contraceptive Metrics Workgroup, and holds appointments at George Washington University. Dr. Hathaway is a dedicated advocate interested in advancing reproductive health policies, family planning strategies, and the development of sound public health programs.
 

ADRIANE FUGH-BERMAN, MD

Professor, Department of Pharmacology and Physiology, and Department of Family Medicine

Bio

Dr. Fugh-Berman teaches courses on medicinal plants and evidence-based medicine at Georgetown University Medical Center. She directs PharmedOut, a GUMC project that advances evidence-based prescribing. Her research focuses on pharmaceutical marketing practices and the culture of medicine.

JAMILA PERRITT, MD, MPH

Reproductive Health and Family Planning Specialist

Bio

Jamila Perritt, MD MPH FACOG is a fellowship trained, board certified Obstetrician and Gynecologist with a comprehensive background in family planning and reproductive health. She provides community based care focusing on the intersection of sexual health, reproductive rights and social justice. Dr. Perritt works as a clinical provider in Washington DC and surrounding areas and as a reproductive health care consultant collaborating with organizations to provide ongoing support and subject matter expertise on sexual and reproductive health, family planning and reproductive justice. SUSAN F. WOOD, PHD

Bio

Dr. Wood's work at GW and public advocacy focuses on the use of scientific knowledge in public policy. She previously was Assistant Commissioner for Women's Health at the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA), and directed the FDA Office of Women's Health from 2000 - 2005 when she resigned on principle over continued delay of approval of emergency contraception over-the-counter. Prior to the FDA, Dr. Wood was the Director of Policy and Program Development at the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services' Office on Women's Health. From 1990 - 1995, Dr. Wood worked on Capitol Hill as professional staff for the Congressional Caucus for Women's Issues. Initially as Science Advisor and later as Deputy Director to the Caucus, Dr. Wood helped develop and promote the Women's Health Equity Act.
