CHANGING THE CULTURE OF PAIN TREATMENT SYMPOSIUM
The purpose of this interprofessional educational program will be to change the culture of pain management by promoting non-opioid therapies for chronic pain. Various evidence based alternative treatment modalities such as clinical massage therapy, acupuncture, physical therapy, occupational therapy, chiropractic care, naturopathic medicine, cognitive behavioral therapy, and community health services will be introduced. Panelists will discuss their approaches to specific patient case examples giving providers the knowledge to choose the best treatment path for their patients.
This symposium is supported by funding from the Rhode Island Executive Office of Health and Human Services Healthcare Workforce Transformation Program.

Learning Objectives
- Recognize psychosocial risk factors for patients with pain.
- Evaluate outcomes of integrative therapy options to manage pain.
- Analyze patients’ biopsychosocial elements related to pain.
- Identify various treatment plans for pain management.
- Describe steps in the referral process for prescribing non-pharmacologic pain management.
