Buprenorphine for Opioid Use Disorder

The United States is in the midst of an epidemic of opioid overdoses and overdose deaths. Multiple factors have contributed to this epidemic. “One aspect of managing this crisis is to increase the number of providers able to treat opioid use disorder with Medication for Addiction Treatment (or MAT).”

This presentation will focus on the use of buprenorphine to treat opioid use disorder. The purpose of the program is to educate potential buprenorphine prescribers to encourage them to treat patients with opioid use disorder with buprenorphine.

This program will include a review of the opioid epidemic in the United States as well as an overview of opioid use disorder and its treatment. Information on the pharmacology and administration of buprenorphine will be presented, along with information on the clinical use of buprenorphine.  The presentation will also cover the use of buprenorphine in special populations, such as pregnant women, people with pain, and others as well as case discussions.

  2. Describe the induction of buprenorphine for treatment of opioid use disorder
  3. Identify considerations for the use of buprenorphine in special populations
