5.28.20 OWIMS PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT COURSE: FILM SCREENING OF "MEDICINE WOMAN: THE STORY OF AMERICA’S FIRST NATIVE MEDICAL DOCTOR"

In this film, the life story of Dr. Susan LaFlesche Picotte – the first woman Native American doctor – is interwoven with examples of current health disparities among modern Native American people. The film will be used to launch a discussion around themes of health care disparities and inequitable work environments in healthcare. 

Learning Objectives

After participating in this program, learners should be better able to: 

  1. Describe health disparities among Native Americans
  2. Discuss the impact of educational and occupational inequity for women in healthcare on their ability to serve the needs of their communities.
