2020 Washington Medical Licensure Program

The 2020 Washington Medical Licensure Program is designed to satisfy mandatory CME requirements for physicians and other healthcare professionals in the state of Washington. Completion of this program satisfies requirements on six (6) hours in suicide assessment, treatment, and management training and the new one (1) hour mandatory requirement on opioid prescribing. 

Course One: Suicide Assessment, Treatment, and Management (6 credits)

  • Course Dates 03/2020 - 02/2023

Course Two: Opioid Prescribing (1 Credits)

  • Course Dates 05/2020 - 04/2023

Target Audience

This course is designed for all physicians and other health care practitioners.

Learning Objectives

Course One: Suicide Assessment, Treatment, and Management

Completion of this course will better enable the course participant to:

  1. Assess a patient’s suicide risk and collaboratively determine the best treatment method.
  2. Describe strategies to minimize the risk of future suicide attempts.
  3. Explain the concept of patient-centered care in the context of suicide prevention.
  4. Describe the specific challenges of managing suicide in the population of Veterans and active-duty military personnel.

 

Course Two: Opioid Prescribing

Completion of this course will better enable the course participant to:

  1. Describe examples of non-opioid analgesic options for managing acute pain.
  2. Describe examples of non-opioid analgesic options for managing chronic non-cancer pain.
  3. Explain the recommended uses and limitations of extended-release opioids.
  4. Explain pharmacological options available to treat opioid use disorder.
