2020 Illinois Medical Licensure Program
The 2020 Illinois Professional Licensure Program is designed to satisfy Illinois' mandatory CME requirements.
Physicians (MD/DO) and Physician Assistants (PA) who are licensed to prescribe controlled substances must complete three (3) hours of CME on safe opioid prescribing practices. Additionally, all physicians (MD/DO) and physician assistants (PA) must complete one (1) hour of sexual harassment prevention training. Both requirements must be completed prior to upcoming 2020 license renewal.

This course is designed for all health care practitioners.
Learning Objectives
Course one: Opioid Analgesics in the management of acute and chronic pain
Completion of this course will better enable the course participant to:
- Discuss the fundamental concepts of pain management, including pain types and mechanisms of action of major analgesics.
- Identify the range of therapeutic options for managing acute and chronic pain, including non-pharmacologic approaches and pharmacologic (non-opioid and opioid analgesics) therapies.
- Explain how to integrate opioid analgesics into a pain treatment plan individualized to the needs of the patient, including counseling patients and caregivers about the safe use of opioid analgesics.
- Discuss recommendations for incorporating emergency opioid antagonists into prescribing practice, and for training patients and family members on the use of naloxone.
- Recognize the risks of addiction inherent in the use of opioids for both acute and chronic pain and identify strategies to mitigate risks of diversion and misuse.
- Identify medications currently approved for the treatment of opioid use disorder and the ways these medications differ in terms of mechanisms of action, regulatory requirements, and modes of administration.
Course Two: Sexual Harassment Awareness and Prevention
Completion of this course will better enable the course participant to:
- Identify behaviors that are, and are not, sexual harassment.
- Discuss strategies for mitigating and preventing sexual harassment and for intervening in witnessed sexual harassment.
- Identify resources and options for reporting sexual harassment within one’s place of employment or to outside entities.
- Describe protections for “whistleblowers”.
