Gender Affirming Care 101: Providing Hormone Therapy
This module reviews important terminology, addresses medical biases, and identifies best practices for serving transgender and nonbinary patients. Users of this module will learn about clinical guidelines for prescribing hormone therapy and will learn about practice changes they can make to ensure patients receive nondiscriminatory care. This module includes a role play demonstration of key concepts.
Learning Objectives
- Review important terminology for working with transgender and/or nonbinary patients along with how to incorporate language changes into your medical practice.
- Discuss underlying discrimination and medical biases related to the provision of care for patients who are transgender and/or nonbinary and how to not perpetuate harm.
- Discuss clinical guidelines for hormonal therapy for patients who are transgender and/or nonbinary.
- Practice having conversations around hormone therapy with transgender and/or nonbinary patients.
- Identify best practices that clinics can use to provide nondiscriminatory care, including the training of support staff.
