Pain management with Opioid, Non-Opioid, and Non-Pharmacological Interventions

This course satisfies the Utah Division of Occupational and Professional Licensing (DOPL) mandate which states that “beginning with the licensing period that begins after January 1, 2014, as a condition precedent for license renewal, each controlled substance prescriber shall complete at least 3.5 continuing education hours per licensing period.” The 3 hours 10 minutes of the core curriculum remains the same as the last license renewal and includes educational content covering the following:

  1. the scope of the controlled substance abuse problem in Utah and the nation,
  2. all elements of the FDA Blueprint for Prescriber Education under the FDA’s Extended-Release and Long-Acting Opioid Analgesics Risk Evaluation and Mitigation Strategy, as published July 9, 2012, or as it may be subsequently revised,
  3. the national and Utah-specific resources available to prescribers to assist in appropriate controlled substance and opioid prescribing,
  4. patient record documentation for controlled substance and opioid prescribing, and
  5. office policies, procedures, and implementation
  6. some training regarding medical cannabis, as that term is defined in Section 26B-4-201

Learners will need to pick at a minimum an additional half-hour of electives to satisfy the 3.5-hour requirement. Learners have the opportunity to earn a maximum of 8.00 hours of continuing education if all electives are taken.
