Informing Alzheimer’s Disease Referral: Blood-Based Biomarker Evaluation in Primary Care

This educational activity is intended for an audience of neurologists, primary care physicians, psychiatrists, and nurses in the United States.

The goal of this activity is for learners to be better able to summarize the clinical data relating to the measure of blood biomarkers in AD and to AD pathology; identify patients who are candidates to receive blood biomarker testing in the setting of early stages of AD; and summarize how biomarker testing is integrated into the care pathway for early stages of AD.

Learning Objectives

Upon completion of this activity, participants will:

Have increased knowledge regarding the

  • Factors involved in the identification of patients who are candidates for AD biomarker testing
  • Differentiation between clinically relevant AD blood biomarker tests

Demonstrate greater confidence in their ability to

  • Select an appropriate blood biomarker test for patients with clinical evidence of being in an early stage of AD
