This educational activity is designed to educate and equip healthcare professionals with the clinical decision-making skills to determine whether to initiate or continue opioid therapy.

Learning Objectives

  1. Identify considerations for initiating opioid therapy for the management of pain.
  2. Identify considerations for continuing opioid therapy for the management of pain.
  3. Describe practice considerations for selecting opioids, determining dosage, and adjusting dosage as needed for opioid therapy.
  4. Identify elements of successful care coordination and interprofessional collaboration in managing patients receiving opioid therapy.
