At the conclusion of this activity, participants should be able to:

• Review Pennsylvania's child welfare system structure and differentiate between child protective services and general protective services.
• Outline key changes in Pennsylvania's Child Protective Services Law that apply to physicians as mandated reporters, including the expanded legal definition of child abuse and new reporting obligations.
• Describe the roles, rights and responsibilities of physicians and applicable office staff as mandated reporters of suspected child abuse.
• Assess potential signs and symptoms of child abuse and other indicators that would require a report of suspected child abuse.
• Utilize prescribed reporting channels and processes to report suspected child abuse via telephone or the Internet.
