To streamline user access, Mocingbird provides a direct link to the UHS Addiction Medicine Department's approved courses for Opioid Overdose Prevention Program. The UHS Addiction Medicine Department runs a New York State Department of Health-certified opioid overdose prevention program. We provide overdose prevention training and linkage to naloxone (Narcan®) to all patients across our department’s care continuum. We also give trainings to individuals and groups in Binghamton and across Broome County.

According to the United States Drug Enforcement Administration, more than 6 million Americans are misusing prescription drugs.  In 2015, Governor Baker announced that Massachusetts was in the midst of an opioid epidemic.  In 2019, there were 1,952 confirmed opioid-related overdose deaths.  The number of deaths continued to rise in 2020 with over 2,100 confirmed opioid-related overdose deaths which was a 5% increase over the previous year.

Clinicians may hesitate to provide medication abortion without first performing a pelvic ultrasound or pelvic examination, but recent data may give clinicians more confidence in their decision to do so. This course presents providers with evidence-based information and tools to integrate behavioral health care skills into their practice using the Collaborative Care Model. In a time of widespread need for clinical assessment and early intervention services for depression and other behavioral health conditions, providers can learn about how their patient care practices can be adapted to address this need effectively. This module is a lecture style format with knowledge check questions at the end of the presentation. In DC Health’s second module on implicit bias, the concept of implicit bias is overviewed and then expanded on through five scenarios. Participants will have the opportunity to learn from these realistic situations that take place in healthcare settings and review the reasons certain interactions display bias. These interactions may take place at any point during a patient’s care, from a scheduling phone call to the recording of symptoms, and these interactions can even take place amongst coworkers.
