Safe Sedation Training – Moderate

Provide team members with important training in safe sedation at a moderate level that they can complete on their own time in their own spaces.

Target Audience

This activity is intended for all non-anesthesiologist physicians, nurses, dentists, and care team members involved in delivering moderate (conscious) sedation to patients.

Learning Objectives

At the end of this course, participants will be able to:

  • Identify a high-risk patient

  • Differentiate deep sedation from moderate sedation

  • Assessing the patient for responsiveness, airway adequacy, ventilation, oxygenation, and circulation

  • Monitor effectively (including capnography)

  • Rescue a patient from deeper-than-intended sedation

  • Titrate sedatives and analgesics based on pharmacologic characteristics
